  1. I really love how this ensemble makes music so accessible to the community. We shouldn't restrict ourselves to just performing in grand concert halls. I think it's important for us as musicians to react out to the community and help out as much as possible with social, humanitarian issues. Sometimes we take for granted how much of a positive impact our music can have on other people.

  2. This article is particularly interesting to me because it ties a lot into my areas of interest: where music and conflict studies intersect. Music, and, indeed, all the arts have an amazing ability to used for social change. These comfortable forums can be used to discuss uncomfortable things and also to create awareness. Additionally, when you involve two groups of people, classical music gurus as well as people committed to a cause, you expand the horizons of both. The classical music fans learn about a cause and the social activists are introduced to classical music. One of the biggest callings of musicians, as I see it, is to educate and to dialogue. We educate people through our music and through our programming and we bring people together. This creates a great forum for doing so.

  3. I absolutely loved this article and found it to be a true representation of what something like the 21st century musician initiative could possibly do in our society. While the article didn't specifically talk about 21CM, it included many of the qualities that the initiative stresses. I agree with Isabel that we should continue to venture outside of the concert hall in our bow ties and tuxedos. I feel that it is important for us as musicians to use our gifts and try to help benefit our society in any way that we can, music can bring us together.

  5. I love this article because of how proactive this group of musicians is. They definitely took it upon themselves to start something new and expose more people to music. We can use groups like this to understand that 21CM is all about you being willing to start new things.

  6. This article show the kind of Forward thinking mindset that a 21st century musician has to have. The collaboration with Groupmuse is a perfect example. The article also brings up the very real issue of filling concert hall seats and finding new audiences. Groups like this one will be the ones to help solve the issue the most.

  7. I really enjoyed this article and I agreed with the quote that said, "People who haven’t heard classical music before are moved in a completely different way, to a higher level, than those who have heard this type of music before," because I think with any art form there is something wonderful about getting the attention of someone who is unfamiliar with it. This is not to say that playing for cultured fans is not rewarding because it is also great to receive appreciation from "the community" it's just so great to feel like you've changed the perception of a different audience.
